Samsung dealing with faulty Galaxy S 4 battery issues

It’s a complaint we hear from smartphone shoppers time and time again: I need a phone with a bigger battery. Sure, manufacturers can make super-slim handsets with gigantic screens, but if the battery life isn’t getting you through a day of usage, what good is the phone doing you? So, while we may be looking for phones with bigger batteries, we don’t quite mean that in the way some Samsung users are experiencing it, with bad batteries in their Galaxy S 4 handsets physically swelling up.

That’s a pretty clear sign that something is massively wrong with a battery, and possibly even threatening to explode. Not every battery is so obviously defective, and other users notice the problem manifests as excessively fast power drain.

The good news is that Samsung seems to be happily exchanging problem batteries with new ones, so if you run into this issue with your GS4, contact the manufacturer for warranty service. So far we’ve only heard about this problem specifically with the Galaxy S 4, and it may not touch other Samsung Androids.

Of course, we’d recommend doing so sooner rather than later, as there’s no telling how long Samsung’s good will last.
